Conor McGregor and Elon Musk have been generating buzz online as the former posted a screenshot of a recent video call conversation that was had between the two public figures. This comes at a curious time for ‘The Notorious’, who is concurrently mapping out a self-proclaimed desire to return to the octagon at UFC’s White House card next year, but McGregor has also indicated a desire to become the president of Ireland.
The former two-division UFC champion has expressed a desire to run for this political office during the next election cycle and is seemingly enlisting the services of someone like Musk, who played a big role in the US election cycle that saw Donald Trump re-elected.
In a screenshot posted to McGregor’s social media, which was then subsequently shared to X account @ChampRDS, McGregor was seen in conversation with Musk, and many wonder what this will mean going forward for the mixed martial artist’s political aspirations.
Conor McGregor, elon musk, and the presidency of ireland
While the specifics of the call have not been made public, Elon Musk has formally endorsed McGregor’s political goals previously. During that endorsement, the Tesla founder also managed to work in a shot at Ireland deputy prime minister Simon Harris, who is reportedly aiming to convince local officials to keep independent candidates like McGregor to stay out of election processes. In a message publicly posted to X, Musk stated,
“Shame on Simon Harris for tyrannically blocking the will of the people of Ireland! Conor McGregor for President to save Ireland.”
Simon Harris has since responded to Musk, according to The Journal in Dublin, as Harris quipped,
“I see Elon Musk joined in today and sure, why not?”
“[Musk is] backing a man who has been found civilly liable for rape in our courts. That’s the sort of man he believes should be president of Ireland. But thank God, he might have a say as to who is president of the United States of America, but he’s no say in terms of who the president of Ireland is.”
Conor McGregor is not yet eligible to be on this ballot for the Irish presidency, and a September 24th deadline to meet those ballot requirements is approaching quickly. The aforementioned Musk has also supported McGregor’s political goals over the last several months.
Musk previously posted to X that no one will fight harder for Ireland than McGregor in response to a video that the 37-year-old published in front of Dublin government buildings as part of a campaign piece.
The Dublin native has a big public profile, but October 24th is fast approaching for McGregor, who comes in without a defined affiliation in terms of political party. Never mind the sexual assault allegations and physical assault allegations that have burned away much of the partisan good faith that the Irish people seemed to previously have for him earlier in McGregor’s competitive fighting efforts.
