‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Alum Sandra Oh Details Causing “Grief” for Writers on Set Over Script Demands

The Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital staff members are experiencing yet another tragedy.

After the Grey’s Anatomy season 21 finale left off with a hospital explosion leaving many of the major characters’ fates up in the air, including Dr. Atticus “Link” Lincoln (Chris Carmack) and Dr. Monica Beltran (Natalie Morales), it was revealed in the season 22 premiere that Dr. Beltran died, while Link is going through a major recovery period.

In the Oct. 9 premiere, Beltran was crushed by hospital machinery that fell on her amid the impact of the explosion—caused by an acetylene tank leak brought in by a disgruntled patient. However, she is able to help surgical intern Jules Millin (Adelaide Kane) save a young patient before ultimately succumbing to her injuries due to emergency responders taking too long to access the operating room where they are stuck.

Link, meanwhile, is much more seriously injured at the beginning of the episode, with a piece of equipment also falling on his chest. However, he miraculously survives—despite flatlining at one point—due to Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Dr. Ben Warren (Jason George) working together to save him.
