It took some work, but the Austin Bruins were able to dig out of a second-period hole to claim a 4-3 overtime win against the Minot Minotauros in Riverside Arena Friday night.
Austin’s Zander Lipsett capped the night with this second goal of the game, a game-winner at the :33 mark of overtime. It was Lipsett’s first goal at the 1:36 mark of the third period that forced the extra period in the first place.
Lipsett’s goals capped a comeback after the Bruins found themselves down 3-1 after the second period. Minot’s Michael Solominsky and Ivan Sidorov scored just over two minutes of each other to give Minot a 2-0 lead. Solominsky scored just over a minute after Austin’s Nathan Williams to give the Minotauros (2-5-0-2) the two-goal lead heading into the final frame.
Austin’s Ryan Lund cut the lead to 3-2 about mid-way through the third period.
The Bruins (5-2-1-1) out-shot Minot 77-24.
The teams will meet for game two of the weekend Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at Riverside Arena.
