After more than two decades as the home of Twice as Nice Consignment, the building at 417 North Main Street has officially entered a new chapter.
Local business owner Lindsey Compton has purchased the property from longtime owner Sandy Bell, marking new investment in the continued growth and revitalization of downtown Austin.
In a press release on Monday, Compton said she plans to relocate her award-winning business, The Style Lounge Salon, across the street into the newly acquired space. The move will allow the salon to expand its size, add additional stylist chairs, and enhance its offerings. The new location will also bring together The MOD Medspa, which Lindsey co-owns with Betsy Morem, to create a dynamic shared space that blends beauty, wellness, and confidence under one roof.
“I’m really excited for this next adventure, this building has an incredible history of success.” Compton said. “Sandy and I have been operating business directly across the street from each other for many years. I love the fact that this move is not only an opportunity for growth for my companies, but the opportunity that Sandy has worked so hard for, for so many years to retire with success.”
“The Style Lounge has been in business for 15 years and The MOD Medspa for almost five years,” she continued. “Having both teams in the same space will complement each other beautifully, and our guests will benefit from the seamless experience. My heart is downtown, and I look forward to contributing to the continued growth and energy of Main Street.”
Long before becoming home to local shops and salons, 417 North Main Street played an important role in Austin’s earliest days of commerce. In the late 1800s, the building served as the Hormel Provision Market, the original storefront where George A. Hormel began selling fresh meats to the community before officially founding Geo. A. Hormel & Co. in 1891. The modest market laid the foundation for what would grow into one of America’s most iconic food companies.
That legacy of entrepreneurship and hometown pride continues today, as the building once again becomes a space for locally owned businesses to thrive and serve the community.
“We were in business for 24 years, it was a very successful business,” Bell said. “Austin was a great place to have a business, and we had so many loyal customers. I’d like to thank all of our customers over the years for making our business a success. I am so happy that Lindsey will be taking over the building, and I know she will have a very successful future. I can’t wait to see what she does with it! Lindsey has done a lot for Main Street and will continue to do so.”
The new shared space at 417 North Main is expected to open following renovations.
