Will still need to get final approval from the state

The Mower County Board of Commissioners have approved licensing for the county’s first cannabis retail business, which would be located in LeRoy.

MHA Alchemy Corp. was approved to be the first cannabis retail business out of four available in the county, and will be located behind Bear’s Smoke Shop in LeRoy. As required by law, the two stores are to be separate entities with entrances to both even though its the same building.

During Tuesday morning’s meeting, Mower County Environmental Services Supervisor Angie Lipelt said that the necessary licensure paperwork has been submitted to the state for final approval.

“They’ve sent the final paperwork back to the state for final licensure, but it’s not a guarantee even after they’ve gone through all of this,” she said.

LeRoy is one of the Mower County communities that have signed a joint powers agreement with the county for the licensing of cannabis retail businesses.
