Minnesota native and “NASA astronaut Anil Menon has been named to his first mission to the International Space Station, launching next summer. Menon will serve as a flight engineer on the Expedition 75 crew. He will be joined by two Russian cosmonauts for an eight-month mission on board the ISS, where they’ll conduct scientific and technological experiments,” according to KARE 11.
A statue of Hubert H. Humphrey is heading to Washington, D.C., MSN reports. “The provision is part of a larger bonding bill lawmakers passed earlier this month. It also directs Gov. Tim Walz to ask the federal government to replace the existing statue of Henry Mower Rice, a fur trader and politician from Minnesota’s early days, with a Humphrey statue.”
“The Freeborn County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday declared a local state of emergency tied to flooding in western Freeborn County in mid-June,” the Albert Lea Tribune reports. The western part of the county received from 6 to 7 ½ inches of rain on June 16.

Dinner du Nord is coming to Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis on September 11, MPR News reports. “An estimated 2,000 people will be able to sit down for a meal on Nicollet Mall, with food provided by several dozen local restaurants,” and the dinner table will span seven blocks.
