Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was arrested by ICE earlier this week and is expected to be deported to Mexico where the former WBC middleweight champion is wanted for alleged ties to organized crime. The arrest came just days after his pay-per-view (PPV) boxing match against Jake Paul in Anaheim.

Paul appeared to be unsympathetic to his opponent’s legal troubles.

“They blocked off his street and took him into custody leaving his family without any knowledge of his whereabouts,” attorney Michael A. Goldstein told LA Times. “The current allegations are outrageous and appear to be designed as a headline to terrorize the community. Mr. Chavez is not a threat to the community.”

Video recently emerged of Chavez Jr. being chained and taken into custody.

“I’m from Sinaloa, where things are really ugly, and to come here, to such a beautiful country with everything,” Chávez Jr. told LA Times ahead of his Paul fight. “To see Trump attacking immigrants, Latinos, for no reason. Not being with God makes you think you know everything. Trump made a bad decision. After everything that’s happened, I wouldn’t want to be deported.”

The 39 year-old Chavez Jr. has a professional record of 54-7-1, 1 NC with 34 knockouts.
