Pine Island blanks Austin football team

Published 9:50 pm Friday, October 3, 2025

The Austin football team was limited to 100 yards of offense as it fell to Pine Island 48-0 in Art Hass Stadium Friday night.

Pine Island’s Nicholas Thein broke off a 60-yard TD run on the first play from scrimmage and he added first half scoring runs of nine- and five-yards as the Panthers (6-0 overall) took a 35-0 lead into halftime.

“We knew that they were a physical team,” Austin head coach Ed Schmit said. “I didn’t think we matched their physicality and their intensity at all. Too many turnovers and too many mistakes. We’ll get back to work on Monday.”

The Packers (1-5 overall) forced three turnovers in the loss as Lukas Jorgenson recovered a pair of fumbles and Dax Boverhuis intercepted a pass.

“The effort is there,” Schmit said. “You can’t knock that. It’s just that we’re down some players and with guys going both ways, you’re going to wear down some. The majority of the time, we played pretty hard.”

PI has now outscored its opponents 244-21 on the season and Austin has been outscored 281-41 on the year.
